Why We’re Using The Chosen to Spark Small Groups in Japan

If you’ve ever tried launching a small group at your church, you know how hard it can be to get started. People hesitate. Schedules don’t align. Leaders feel unequipped. And even when people do gather… what do we talk about?

That’s why I’ve been working on a simple, practical tool: a small group discussion guide that uses clips from The Chosenseries — not full episodes — as conversation starters.

But this isn’t about The Chosen.

It’s about creating a space for real encounters with Jesus.

Each session is built around a key theme (like “Jesus calls us by name” or “letting go of control”) and includes a short video clip, scripture reading, open questions, and time for reflection. The goal is not to teach theology but to invite people — especially new believers or seekers — to discover Jesus personally and together.

I believe God is already at work in Japan. We just need tools that are simplenatural, and leave room for the Holy Spirit to move.

If that sounds like something you’d like to try in your church, I’d love to share more.
