MATTHEW 6:19-21
19“Don’t save treasures for yourselves here on earth. Moths and rust will destroy them. And thieves can break into your house and steal them. 20Instead, save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them. 21Your heart will be where your treasure is.
Thoughts:
What are the worldly treasures? Money? Wealthy? Power? Influence? What motivates my heart right now? Is it to earn a comfortable life? What is the goal of my life and the center of my motives? Is it to become comfortable? Is it to acquire things the world can offer? House/properties?
- These are not necessarily bad things. But when these becomes the “Treasure” of my heart—the most important things in my life—that is where I lost sight of true treasures.
- The real treasure are the things I can bring into heaven. What are those? 1. My relationship with Jesus. If I treasure Jesus, no one else can take that away from me. 2. My relationship with other people. People are God’s most prized treasure. And I need to treasure my relationships. Those relationships are my wife, my kids, my friends, my church, my co-workers and the people who I have influence on.
Application:
How can I invest in treasures in heaven today? 1. Spend intimate time with Jesus. 2. Love my family like I haven’t before. 3. Love my friends and serve them like I haven’t before.
(Practical things: I will cook good dinner today, and treat Kasumi and kids even better. I will send my friends message of encouragements. I will create an encouraging video on Insta and Facebook to encourage other people.)
